‘Serra de Santa Bárbara’ is the highest point of the Terceira Island, with its 1021 meters and is a magical place, not only for its rich vegetation, the mythical 1000 meters, and mainly by the extraordinary beauty. Given their distinct altitude and high levels of humidity, the mountain features emblematic species of the native flora of the Azores.
With the blue sky or with the magical fogs, the ‘Serra de Santa Bárbara’ let us know one of the largest and best preserved patches of natural vegetation of the Azores.
The impressive bushes of Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia) that can reach considerable size and the wide extensions of Sphagnum moss (Sphagnum sp.), help to create an environment close to the fairy tales.
