‘Serra de Santa Bárbara’ is the highest point of Terceira Island, with its 1021 meters and is a magical place, not only for its rich vegetation, the mythical 1000 meters, and mainly by the extraordinary beauty. Given its distinct altitude and high levels of humidity, the mountain features emblematic species of the native flora of the Azores.
With the blue sky or with the magical fogs, the ‘Serra de Santa Bárbara’ reveals to us one of the largest and best preserved patches of natural vegetation of the Azores.
The impressive bushes of Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia) that can reach considerable size and the wide extensions of Sphagnum moss (Sphagnum sp.), help to create an environment close to the fairy tales. When the fog goes away and the blue of the ocean takes over the horizon, we are sure to have found a magical place.
