During these 7 days you’ll visit the stunning coastline and the dramatic interior of Terceira Island in the Azores. This is a cycling program around the island with time to enjoy the landscape, discover bays and hidden places, visit small museums, take photos and take a bath in natural swimming pools. Visit the Algar do Carvao, a unique 3000 year old volcanic chimney which was formed by two major eruptions (1000 years apart).
Your self-guided cycling program begins in the historic town of Angra, the first settlement in the Azores to be granted city status due to its significance as a maritime hub for ships sailing between Europe, the West Indies and the Americas. Then you have a self guided cycling day to Santa Bárbara area or an optional full day biking around Santa Bárbara mountain with a guide (with extra cost). You’ll then complete a four day, self-guided cycling program throughout the island.
This is circular tour, mainly through asphalt and gravel roads, in which you only have to worry about enjoying the ride without heavy loads because we will carry your luggage to the next accommodation on each day. We give you a GPS and a map with all the interesting points and restaurant suggestions.
Program:
Day 1
- Transfer to the hotel in Angra do Heroísmo
- Briefing for the program including detailed information, route notes, maps and GPS tracks
- Free time to enjoy the city, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage
- Overnight at Angra do Heroismo
Day 2
- Self guided biking to Santa Bárbara area (circular route) 39.4 km
- Visit the Natural Park Interpretation Center and the lava tube ‘Christmas cave.
- Overnight at Angra do Heroismo
Day 3
- Self guided biking Angra do Heroismo – Serreta (linear route) 23 km
- Overnight at Serreta
Day 4
- Full-day activity
